Polish workers had been supplied to positions of Commis Chef in Thurso, Caithness, Scotland by Imperial.

Job offer details...

Permanent position. Working 40 per week average, but fewer in Low Season and more in High Season, usually over 5 days per week, generally as required to ensure all work is completed and kitchen fully staffed. Accommodation available.

Normal duties will include supporting the Head Chef and 2nd Chef in the preparation of all meals and at times when either of them are off, taking control of the kitchen, breakfast several days per week and processing all orders for meals from the dining room and bar.

Experience needed in preparing both standard British and Continental breakfasts, items for bar, lunch and dinner menus including starters, salads, puddings and preparing main courses though perhaps not experienced in some of the more complicated seasonal Scottish dishes.

Thurso is the most northerly town on the Scottish mainland. It is approximately a 2-hour drive north of Inverness and a 20-minute drive from Wick where the local airport is located. Thurso is linked to Inverness and from there all major cities in Scotland and England by both daily train and bus services.

Although located 160kms from the nearest city, Inverness, Thurso still has a reasonably thriving community including many younger people as it has a large college, part of the University of the Highlands and Islands network, is close to Scrabster, the main ferry port giving access to the Orkney Islands and is also near to Dounreay, one of Scotland’s nuclear power stations now being decommissioned. The presence of Dounreay means that all year round the hotel is patronised by business people and in the summer the area attracts many tourists as the famous “John O’ Groats” and the “Castle of Mey” home of the late Queen, Elizabeth the Queen Mother are only a short drive away.
